Welcome to the story of TIPU, a groundbreaking project born out of Sitra Lab 6’s Better Services Through Data program

TIPU is more than just a tool—it’s a vision for a fairer, data-driven future that empowers families to manage and make sense of their children’s learning journeys.

My Data, My Future

Families often struggle with scattered information from schools, hobbies, and activities in today’s digital world. TIPU transforms this digital mess into meaningful insights, helping families like Edward’s to navigate decisions about education, career paths, and personal growth. Built with privacy and ethics at its core, TIPU uses AI to provide tailored recommendations while ensuring families retain full control over their data.

A vision rooted in collaboration

TIPU reflects the values of the MyData Global movement, prioritizing security, transparency, and user agency. Developed through collaboration among experts from MyData Global, Paula Bello Consulting and Headai, TIPU is designed to support children and families in real-life situations, from choosing study paths to applying for jobs. The gamified interface engages children, inspiring confidence and active participation in shaping their futures.

Key achievements and insights

The TIPU project progressed through several phases, adapting as insights emerged:

  • Conceptualization: TIPU was developed to address families’ needs for accessible and actionable educational data, facilitating trust through MyData-based data-sharing principles.
  • AI-Driven Analysis: TIPU’s recommendations connect anonymized user data with job market trends, helping families align educational goals with real-world opportunities while respecting data minimization practices.
  • User-Centric Testing: Families validated a mock-up of TIPU’s intuitive, gamified features, providing feedback that helped balance child autonomy and parental control over learning data.
  • Ethical Data Connections: TIPU uses data connectors, rather than full integrations, to securely share educational and career data, demonstrating a privacy-preserving approach to data interoperability.
  • Stakeholder Ecosystem: TIPU is conceptualised as a data space for children governed by highest principles as defined by UNICEF and 5Rights Foundation.  The aim is an ethically sound, family-centered data framework and ecosystem.

Challenges and next steps

The journey hasn’t been without challenges. Merging data from various sources and balancing child autonomy with parental oversight were key hurdles. TIPU addressed these through modular development and a progressive approach to data control.

Moving forward, TIPU aims to build an MVP (minimum viable product), expand its pilot to international users, and establish a data ecosystem governed by ethical principles for children’s data.

Shaped by Sitra Lab 6

Participation in Sitra Labs 6 provided valuable insights on impact creation and cross-sector collaboration. The TIPU team appreciates Sitra’s expertise and looks forward to building on this foundation to support children’s lifelong learning journeys.
